Why we 5K
Women in Healthcare Leadership at Cornell has, for the most part, historically been an organization focused primarily on education and representation in the healthcare fields.
Enter 2020, where everything was shook up on a global scale. We decided it was time for us to change too and to start looking outward. As a society, there has never been a better time to step up and start creating the change you want to see in the world.
We at WIHL want to see a more unified health system that recognizes, supports, and amplifies the vast and vital contributions of local nonprofit organizations. For this reason, we decided to step out and step up for Cancer Resource Center. So let's come together, lean on and support each other, and start the process of moving forward and
stepping further.

"Prior to coming to Sloan, I interned for a small nonprofit visitation center dedicated to reconnecting families. It was there I realized that health goes far beyond the four walls of a hospital. It is about social connection, support, and meeting the unique needs of a community where they are. With so many struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are reminded of how essential these local support services are to the health and well-being of our society. The Cancer Resource Center goes above and beyond to serve those in need and I feel lucky to have the ability to give a little back in return."

"Especially during COVID-19, my perspective on what community entails has drastically changed. As a freshman who entered college during COVID-19, I knew that my love for community and for giving back had to be strengthened because people need it now more than ever. But beyond that, the places that I call home have changed to now include Ithaca. The Cancer Resource Center does absolutely amazing things for its patients, and CRC knows the importance of establishing a community. This 5K event is about just moving one step further in creating a better life for those at CRC."
