Top 5 Free User-Friendly Step Trackers

NOTES

  • When you click “allow while using the app” on any of these applications during registration, then you HAVE to have the app OPEN during your workout.

  • Prior to walking, make sure the app is either open or does not need to be open in order to track your activity (in settings).

  • Premium is sometimes an option, but not mandatory to track steps on any platform outlined below.

iPhone Health App (iOS)

  1. This app will already be downloaded if you have an iPhone

  2. Under “Health Categories” go to “Activity”

  3. From here, click “Steps”

  4. It will record all steps you have taken that day, week, month, etc.

  5. To record steps through this app: Screenshot your beginning and ending step count each time you set out on a walk or run. Then, subtract the end total from the beginning to see how close you made it to 6,250 steps!


Google Fit – Activity Tracker (Android or iOS)

Disclaimer: Google Fit is designed for Androids. If you choose to use it on an iPhone, you will need to let it sync with your Health app when prompted

  1. Download Google Fit via the 1st link for Android or the 2nd link for iOS: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.fitness&hl=en_US&gl=US or https://apps.apple.com/us/app/google-fit-activity-tracker/id1433864494

  2. Allows you to set daily goals and to monitor “Heart Points”

  3. Once downloaded, Google Fit will show your steps on the home screen along with your heart points

  4. Fun fact: It was developed with the American Heart Association


Pacer (Android or iOS)

  2. Step counter and activity tracking app

  3. Inputs your own personal goals for exercising

  4. User must enable “Motion and Fitness” when starting an account

  5. Optional: Enable Pacer to use your location. This allows you to track your GPS-based exercises and can recommend nearby competitions and routes
